What is this Resource Guide?
This resource guide is for patients, family members, advocates, US healthcare administrators and providers, and medical school professors and students.
How can Patients use this Resource Guide?
The health advocacy guide contains several educational tools to help prepare for upcoming health visits, including an appointment checklist, health changes tracker, and question bank.
The guide also provides information on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which outlines patients’ rights when receiving medical care. There are also vaccination recommendations, including information on the COVID-19 vaccine and other CDC-recommended immunizations.

The guide highlights the role cultural beliefs and personal circumstances can play in how patients seek care and engage with the healthcare system.
