This webinar highlights a research study exploring significant barriers to health care faced by various populations. Top barriers include out-of-pocket costs, nervousness, and identity differences between patients and providers. The webinar will explore the underlying causes of poorer health outcomes in populations with limited access to health care, and the vital need to develop effective interventions to improve health outcomes for everyone.

Miguel Antonio Fudolig, PhD is currently an Assistant Professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Public Health. He received his PhD in statistics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2022. His research interests are threefold: health disparities research, applied statistics methodology, and epidemic modeling. He is currently the Southern Vice President of the Nevada chapter of the American Statistical Association and the faculty advisor of two student groups. He also mentored three for the All of Us Research Academy at UNLV.

Christopher Johansen, PhD, MPH is Assistant Professor of Social and Behavioral Health at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Public Health. He is currently investigating pediatric obesity disparities in Nevada, however his research interests include health disparities across the lifespan.

Kavita Batra, PhD, MPH, BDS, FRSPH, is Executive Director of Medical Research and Scholarly  Activities, is an assistant professor and senior medical research biostatistician at the Kirk  Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. She provides statistical and research training to faculty, residents, fellows, and medical students within the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV.

Sula Hood, PhD is a Senior Research Scientist at RTI, a non-profit research institute. She has over 17 years of experience, with a focus on health communication and community engagement in genomics. Dr. Hood is a Co-Investigator on RTI’s All of Us Engagement and Retention Innovator Award and she serves as a Co-Lead for the All of Us Researcher Academy.

The All of Us Researcher Academy provides training and technical assistance to researchers who are conducting research with the All of Us Researcher Workbench, the cloud-based platform where registered researchers can access data contributed by All of Us participants. The academy also supports peer-to-peer learning and network-building among researchers and students.
