In partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Salzburg Global Seminar hosted a health program on Centering on Equity: Transforming the Health Science Knowledge System in Salzburg, Austria from October 7 – 12, 2024 for 50 committed advocates, practitioners, and researchers.
I was excited to be invited to this program to offer my expertise on community engagement, and to learn from international and Global South perspectives on disrupting the health science knowledge system.
The program was held at the Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron, which led to generative conversations about the colonial influence on health research in general. We also had exchange sessions where participants were invited to showcase their practice and research in health equity, and collaboration building sessions to pitch team-based idea proposals to the full group in hopes of advancing the ideas after the program ended.
I had the honor of co-facilitating an exchange session inviting participants to draw their own rivers of life, noting their positionality and reflections on how they came to this space. Many enjoyed the time and space to be creative and consider where their career had taken them, and to be mindful of where they wanted to go.
Salzburg Global Seminar offers fantastic opportunities to network and collaborate with international practitioners while enjoying the Austrian landscape and environment.
